Modern villa design in Italy is where contemporary elegance, technology and living comfort meet. It is not only about large surfaces or expensive materials: a modern luxury villa is a tailor-made project in which every line, every glass wall and every detail answers to the way its owners live. This guide looks at what defines modern villa design, its features and styles, four villas built by our studio and how a project is approached from the first sketch. The Italian version is our guide to ville di lusso moderne.

What makes modern villa design in Italy truly exclusive
A modern villa stands out for studied essentiality, building quality and a deep relationship with the landscape. Luxury is not displayed: it is perceived in the precision of the finishes, the continuity of the spaces and the light.
Clean lines and open spaces
Crisp volumes, fluid open-plan living and precise geometries are the signature of modern villa design: rooms that connect with each other and with the outside, without needless barriers.
The relationship with the landscape
The best modern villas speak to their context: orientation, views and materials come from the analysis of the site, so that the house looks like part of the landscape.
The features of modern villa design in Italy
Natural light and large glazing
Full-height glazing dissolves the boundary between inside and outside and brings the landscape into the house: light is the real building material of modern villa design.
Quality materials
Natural stone, marble, wood and exposed concrete, used with consistency, give character and durability and create continuity between interior, exterior and garden. On the technical side of one of them, see our guide to exposed concrete façades: costs, defects and solutions.
Home automation and integrated technology
Climate, lighting, security and entertainment are managed by systems that stay invisible: in modern villa design technology improves daily life without weighing down the spaces.
Styles of modern villa design in Italy
Contemporary minimalism
Minimalism values emptiness, proportion and matter. It is one of the most requested souls of modern villa design in Italy, and the starting point of several of the projects below.
Modern Mediterranean
Local stone, patios and bioclimatic pergolas reinterpret tradition: the modern Mediterranean turns the garden into an extension of the villa, often with a swimming pool as its focal point.
Modern villa design in Italy: four projects by the studio
The clearest way to understand modern villa design in Italy is to look at built villas. These four are described on our project pages, with the facts the studio has published about each.
Villa MD Home, Verona: the harmony of contrasts
A private villa with a swimming pool, 280 m², built in Verona in only nine months. The design starts from two sharp volumes that intersect along two axes, one for the living area and one for the sleeping area. From the crossing come the two faces of the house: closed and silent towards the street, open and bright towards the garden. The villa has been featured in Dentrocasa (2020, in Italian) and in the Spanish magazine Arquitectura y Diseño (2022, in Spanish): see also our press section.
Villa CD Home, Verona: solid and light
Another villa in Verona built in nine months, again from the intersection of two main axes that create two opposite façades: an austere front without windows towards the urban context, and a rear façade that frames the interiors and opens directly onto the garden. Motorised, floor-flush window frames with fingerprint opening erase the line between indoors and outdoors.

SD Home, Soave: a cube with an infinity pool
Set in the hills of Soave, near Verona, SD Home is built on a cube structure that gives the building a solid, compact look and wide, flexible interiors. Large sliding glass doors, the distinctive element of the project, create a direct connection between the rooms and the outdoor spaces, with an infinity pool in front.
AV Home, Dueville (Vicenza): Emotional Minimalism
A villa of 300 m² with four bedrooms and three bathrooms, designed as a built manifesto of an idea of luxury: not ostentation but Emotional Minimalism, the ability of an essential architecture to create a deep emotion through light, materials and landscape. Pure volumes, clean surfaces and no superfluous decoration leave the stage to natural light.
How modern villa design in Italy is approached: from site to supervision
A project begins with the site: plot, orientation, views, planning rules. Then comes the concept, with volumes and layout; the developed design with materials and systems; the planning application; the construction drawings; and site supervision, where the quality of the idea is defended. Coordinating architecture, structure, systems, interiors and landscape from the beginning is what keeps modern villa design in Italy coherent. If you are building from abroad, see our guide to building a villa in Italy.

Costs of modern villa design in Italy
The cost depends on size, materials, systems and the level of customisation. For a detailed picture read how much a luxury villa costs in Italy, and for the architect’s part of the budget, architect fees for a villa in Italy: a good design optimises every euro and avoids surprises on site.
Mistakes to avoid in modern villa design in Italy
The most common mistakes are sacrificing light to gain rooms, choosing expensive materials that do not belong together, and neglecting energy performance. An excellent project comes from an overall vision, coordinated from the start.
Where we practise modern villa design in Italy
We work from Verona across northern Italy and abroad. See, for example, the guides to luxury villa design on Lake Garda and to modern cubic villas on Lake Garda, or browse all projects.
Frequently asked questions about modern villa design in Italy
What distinguishes a modern luxury villa from a traditional one?
In modern villa design in Italy the answer is clean lines, large glazing, open spaces, integrated technology and a strong relationship with the landscape: modern villa design puts light, quality and wellbeing before decoration.
How long does modern villa design in Italy take?
From the first consultation to the construction design it takes a few months, plus the time for permits and the site. Involving an architect from the start makes the process faster and more coherent. Two of the villas above were built in nine months.
Are modern villas sustainable?
In modern villa design in Italy, energy efficiency and design are now inseparable, and that also supports the market value of the house.
Do I need an architect for modern villa design in Italy?
Yes: coordinating architecture, systems, interiors and landscape requires expert direction from the first sketch to the end of the site.
Can I visit or see the villas of the studio?
